16th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference
Online from Västerås, Sweden, June 14-18 2021
IEEE System, Man, and Cybernetics Society (SMC), in cooperation with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), is organizing the 16th International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) to be held online.
The conference deals with challenges and solutions regarding Systems of Systems (SoS). SoS are typically characterized in terms of operational and managerial independence of their constituent systems, and by emergent behavior. Take for instance city traffic as a “system”, exemplifying a situation with a multitude of stakeholders, independent evolution (of streets, vehicles, other infrastructure), not always clear responsibilities, and where a change or the introduction of entirely new systems (such as automated vehicles) may cause hard to predict behaviors (emergence). The increasing connectivity, “cyber-space” computing and artificial intelligence are providing new innovation and business opportunities in SoS by enabling data sharing, and in providing new means for coordination and prediction. This can be seen in terms of technology push (from technology) or as technology pull (from value propositions). The impact of the ongoing digitalization can for example be understood in terms of technologies that enable new functionality which in turn has specific qualities. The functionality and qualities enable new business and value propositions (applications). In essence this means that many new SoS will indeed be Cyber-Physical Systems of Systems. These opportunities are also accompanied with new risks, widening the set of challenges that need consideration for CPSoS – setting the scene for this years’ conference theme: “Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems of Systems”.
The conference will run virtually on June 14-18, with live sessions between 15.00-19.00 CET each day. The program will consist of presentations by leading experts in the SoSE field:
